Pearson, Imagine America Foundation, Launch College and Career Readiness Website for Private Sector College Students

Pearson, one of the world’s leading learning company, and the Imagine America Foundation (IAF), a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing scholarships for education, research and training for the career college sector, today announced plans to launch a college and career readiness website designed to support private sector college students’ success in higher education and the workplace.

ISKME's Action Collab session, part of the CompletionMatters.org project, took place at the Communities Learning in Partnership (CLIP) convening in SF in May 2011. Aimed at supporting innovation and collaboration, the Action Collab was a 3-hour design and prototyping challenge.

 

Collaboration as Key to Success for Low Income Students

A May 10-12 meeting of the Communities Learning in Partnership (CLIP) initiative brought together representatives from 11 cities to discuss ways to make that vision a reality, specifically around its efforts to support the success of low-income students. Fewer earnings anticipated by student however they are nevertheless positive

Young individuals, especially those right around the age of college students, think that they'll earn less money than their parents however can be just as happy if not more so with their lives. The Associated Press found that individuals aged 18 to 24 expected greater amounts of debt and higher costs in their life than their parents, but were still generally optimistic about their futures.

Generation Facebook and Higher Education

"I read Gary Hamel's piece, The Facebook Generation vs. the Fortune 500, with great interest. In it, he talks about the tensions that traditional, cubicle-land corporations will likely face as a creative, connected workforce comes on-line. I was particularly interested because, as a member of the higher educational establishment, I'm part of the pipeline, sitting in-between K-12 and the workplace. More importantly, I think that higher education faces many of the same challenges that the Fortune 500 does. So, with that said, I'd like to parallel Gary's piece, edging towards the extreme in my reflection (playing agent provocateur, perhaps) on the tensions between the Facebook generation and higher ed.

Building Successful University-Business Partnerships
