Their Student Success Plan software now provides a digital intervention, offering a “holistic case-management system,” uniting faculty, advisors, counselors and students, to support completion. John N. Gardner: A step to mitigate the August train wreck

 

John N. Gardner of the Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education blogs in support of tiered tuition models. According to Gardner, differential tuition would encourage students to register on time (as on-time registration would mean lower tuition). He argues that this in turn would encourage students to show up for classes on time, and ultimately be more prepared to succeed.

Tuition hike taking effect for 17 programs

 

Over the past year, Pima Community College (PCC) in Arizona has stratified tuition for 17 programs. This article covers the perspective of a single mother of two, as she finishes her first semester in dental hygiene at PCC – and struggles with the fact that her program now falls under a higher tuition rate, which is more difficult for her to afford. 

Universities charging more money for harder majors

This article discusses the option of raising tuition for majors which cost more to teach – and which can ultimately help students secure higher paying jobs. While controversial, University of Nebraska-Lincoln dean of College Business Administration calls the strategy “a lifesaver.” The institution has raised tuition for courses such as business and engineering to the tune of $50 more a credit, allowing for the creation of a career center, for a student lounge renovation and for the hiring of additional faculty.
